New Jersey Law Firm Group Public Interest Fellowship
As part of its ongoing commitment to encouraging law students to pursue public interest opportunities in New Jersey, the New Jersey Law Firm Group has created a public interest fellowship. The fellowship, which is awarded on a rotating basis to a student attending one of the three New Jersey law schools, is designed to supplement the income earned by a law student who elects to work in the government or public interest sector. Funds permitting, each year the New Jersey Law Firm Group provides a stipend of $7,500.00 to one law student who has decided to employ his or her considerable talents for the public interest.
The program is designed to encourage the best and brightest law students to pursue employment with public interest organizations that serve the poor and/or disadvantaged in New Jersey. To be eligible for this fellowship, a law student must first obtain a full-time summer position at a government or non-profit organization in New Jersey. Students must also submit an essay demonstrating their interest and commitment to public service along with their resume and a copy of their transcript. The New Jersey Law Firm Group will then award the fellowship to the law student who it believes has demonstrated the greatest combination of academic success and commitment to the public interest.
The 2011 Fellowship will be awarded to one student at the Seton Hall University School of Law and one student at the Rutgers School of Law - Newark. This year, a partial scholarship will also be awarded to Rutgers School of Law – Newark and Rutgers School of Law – Camden.
